Desi Arnaz: Achieving the American Dream
W.T. Bland Public Library (Mount Dora) - Community Room
In-Person
In 1933, Batista's Cuban Revolution forced a young Desi Arnaz and his family to flee to Miami Beach where the penniless 16-year-old found himself adrift in a foreign land. Yet within three years he would learn English, master the guitar and, as a bandleader, launch the "Conga Craze" in America. With endless drive and imagination, his talent took him to Broadway and then Hollywood where he met his future wife and co-star, Lucille Ball. With 'I Love Lucy', not only would Arnaz invent modern television, this extraordinary man would transform American culture. No registration required.
Sponsored by the GFWC Mount Dora Woman's Club.
